Essempy, a partnership run by Norman and Diana Price, is an independent consultancy offering project management, safety management and general induction training, mainly in the rail industry.
The company was established in 2000 although its roots go back much further. During this time upwards of 1000 delegates have received railway induction type training with many others gaining certificates in project management, risk assessment and the CDM Regulations.
In 2005 Essempy wrote the original Core Planner Skills courses and since then approximately 500 planners have qualified with us.
Essempy's major clients include Network Rail, London Underground, Balfour Beatty and Atkins as well as most of the infrastructure contractors.
Essempy is registered as Link-up qualified supplier No. 21093 as well as a member of Rail Alliance.
Originally a railway civil engineer, Norman's
training career started when he moved into project management in
1983 and undertook the full responsibilities of a British Rail
project manager for research projects, track to train
communications, personnel warning devices and electrification
projects from 1984 until 1993.
During 1985 he devised and was responsible for the
BR Project Management Handbook and Procedures until privatisation in
1994. To support this
he designed and delivered associated project management training
which was delivered to over 3,000 personnel both in the rail
industry and, since 1995 other clients as diverse as construction,
publishing, facilities management, cosmetics, communications and
banking.
In 1992 he initiated the development of and
managed an innovative “Safety Management for Projects” training
programme, for BR, and subsequently Railtrack.
The advent of the Construction (Design and Management)
Regulations enabled us to offer this programme generically.
In 1994 he
co-wrote and has regularly updated the well-known 100 Basic
Principles induction programme as well as, more recently, introduced
a more technical Modular Railway Induction programme
Norman’s formal project management training was with the Cranfield Institute. He has maintained close links with other leading academic institutions and ran a Masters Degree programme in partnership with the University of Lancaster. As well as the UK, He has delivered training programmes in Egypt, Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong. He achieved personal Fellow status as well as early course accreditation for his core project management and safety management programmes from the Association for Project Management. More recently he has achieved an APM project risk management training qualification. He has had professional papers published by the Institution of Civil Engineers, Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Major Projects Association, Association for Project Management, Management Engineering Society (Cairo) and Institution of Railway Signalling Engineers as well as numerous transport and project management journals.
